Buona Domenica Caro Lettore!

I am continuing where I left last week and sharing with you Part 2 of my weekend trip to Tuscany. I share where we stayed, what we ate and how we ended our trip at a very modern wine tasting experience in the village of Greve in Chianti. If you missed Part 1, you can read it here.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this format of Merenda and gotten some inspiration for your next trip in Tuscany. Now, I suggest you take a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) and follow along the journey in vine country.

Cari Saluti,

1. Salvadonica in Tuscany
After our lunch at Marchesi Antinori estate, we continued our trip to our hotel to stay for the night. The hotel and winery Salvadonica was only a 15 minute drive away deeper to the land of Chianti, in the hills of San Casciano. After one tasting and a lunch with more than one bottle of wine, Salvadonica was a great destination, since they offered everything our group needed and we didn’t have to drive anywhere.

The beautiful surroundings

Salvadonica offers a variety of services from breakfast, lunch and dinner, a pool, massages, tennis, yoga, to an outdoor cinema surrounded by beautiful scenery and vines. The rooms were spacious, clean and newly renovated.

In the evening you could enjoy the beautiful views once the sun set beneath the Tuscan hills. In the morning waking up and starting your day with a hike in the hills of San Crasciano was a great way to start the day. A morning hike was followed by a big breakfast set in their restaurant. As some of you may know, Italian breakfast is traditionally rather simple, but Salvadonica had a big breakfast variety. They also offer a picnic basket breakfast, which is set in the premises surrounded by the vines and cypress trees and beautiful views.

Whether your exploring the area or looking for a place to stay, I’d recommend visiting Salvadonica for even just dinner or a walk in the beautiful surroundings. I will definitely want to visit again and try all the activities we didn’t have time to do on our visit.

2. Dinner at La Volpenera
In the evening we enjoyed a delicious dinner at the restaurant La Volponera in Salvadonica’s premises. La Volponera is focused on Tuscan cuisine and recipes of regional tradition.

Everything We Ate

As an appetizer we shared their signature dish; liver patè creamed with Vin Santo, pan brioche and apple with rosemary. For primi, we had another signature dish which was excellent: the pici pasta with Capovolto wine, wild boar meat sauce and saffron cream, and also the Fusillo fresco al ragù toscano and Lasagna al ragù.

As if this was not enough, our dinner was followed by the classic Bistecca alla Fiorentina (T-Bone steak), which we shared with the five of us. Finally our dinner ended with Vin Santo and some Cantuccini. A heavy, but delicious way to end our day in Tuscany.
