Happy Sunday Dear Reader!
A few weeks back we were visiting Veneto and decided to make a day trip to Bassano del Grappa, since we had heard great things about it. I’ve curated the perfect walk around town for you with the best stops to visit. In this Merenda Newsletter I share a tour guide to the beautiful, quaint town of Bassano del Grappa, where to visit, what and where to drink and eat. Enjoy!
Cari Saluti,

The Perfect Day in Bassano del Grappa
Bassano del Grappa is located in the foothills of the Prealps in Veneto, approximately an hour drive from Verona. The town was named after a local 16th Century painter Jacopo Bassano. It’s a stunning, wealthy small town, with history, beautiful landscape and fresh mountain air blowing from the Venetian Prealps. I was absolutely stunned by the beauty and charm of this town, and I highly recommend you to visit.
We visited in the end of January on a Saturday arriving around 11 am which gave us the whole day to explore the town.
First stop: Morning pick-me-up
Start your day with a great coffee and pastry at INN Bottega before heading to the center. Energized with coffee and some sweet pastries, start making your way towards the center.Sight-seeing
Continue to the town’s main piazzas: Piazza Libertà and Piazza Garibaldi. Admire the beautiful architecture, and if you’re visiting on a weekend stroll around the weekend markets.Next visit the Libreria Palazzo Roberti, one of Europe’s most beautiful book stores. The old palazzo now hosts a book store, but the beautiful wooden beams and frescos in the ceiling remind of its former glory days. In addition, it offers a wonderful selection of books. Tip! They also have a web shop if you’re interested in browsing their selection.
Aperitivo of Bassano del Grappa
Continue the walk towards Grapperia Nardini, Italy’s first distillery. It was founded in 1779, and they now offer a great selection of distilled drinks, obviously grappa, but also liquors, aperitifs and bitters. Order their signature drink Mezzo e Mezzo and enjoy it as a pre-lunch aperitivo. It’s made with their signature bittersweet drink, with a splash of soda and lemon peel. The Grapperia has amazing history and is a charming sight to experience. With the Mezzo e mezzo drink in hand, join the crowds at Ponte Vecchio and admire the beautiful views of the river, mountains and the wonderful colorful buildings on the other side of the bridge.
Lunch
It’s time to eat. Start heading to lunch.
