A Local Bolognese Go-to on a Sunday

Ciao!

Bologna has been blessed with warm and sunny weather these past weeks and mentally it still feels like the end of Summer (at least for my Nordic blood). So I’ve collected content to this week’s Merenda aligned with both the warm weather and some new local and non-local discoveries. I share a fresh recipe and a wonderful Italian white wine to pair with it. I also share a tip to locals or visitors in Bologna to go to next Sunday.

Cari Saluti,
Emilia in Bologna

Are you enjoying Merenda? I’d love if you would forward it to a friend or family member. Thank you!

Filled Avocados with Shrimp salad and dill

I made these filled avocados with a shrimp salad filling to a recent dinner party as an appetizer and they turned out delicious. Try this recipe for your next dinner and let me know how you liked it! For my paid subscribers I share a perfect wine suggestion to pair with the dish.

The Filled Avocados with fresh dill

What you’ll need
Serving 4 people

  • 2 avocados

  • 400 g of shrimp

  • 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise

  • 3 tablespoons of creme fraiché or greek yogurt

  • 1 tsp of Dijon mustard

  • Juice of half a lemon

  • A bunch of Dill

  • Salt, pepper and pinch of chili flakes

Instructions

Dice your shrimps and scoop your avocados and gently mash them with a fork. Inside a mixing bowl add the diced shrimp, avocados and rest of the ingredients. Mix all the ingredients together and flavour with salt, pepper and some chili flakes. Fill the avocado peel with the mixture and garnish with dill.

The Sunday Farmer’s Market at Piazza Aldrovandi

The Seasonal Produce at the Farmer’s Market

I’ve mentioned it before in Merenda, and I will mention it again. Going to a Sunday Farmer’s Market feels like a warm hug and is something I highly recommend to add to your Sunday routine. There’s something grounding in leaving the house before noon on a Sunday, maybe drinking your second coffee on your way to the market and just enjoying the city walking up. Talk with the producers, ask for recommendations, try samples and simply enjoy the beauty of people getting together to shop seasonal specialties.

The Vast Apple Selection

The Market at Piazza Aldrovandi was closed last year but now every Sunday the street will close down for local producers offering the best produce and products of the season. I definitely recommend going, wandering around, getting inspired and shopping great ingredients for your next meal.
