Dear Reader,
I hope you’re enjoying a sunny Sunday and the warm days of May. One of my most popular Merenda posts has been the What I eat in a day, so I decided to write a realistic version of What I eat (and obviously drink) in a day on holiday.
I recently spent a few days of my holiday in Bologna, and decided to document all my meals to share with you a realistic day of what I ate. It happened to be a great day to document, as I had the best pasta dinner (!) so far in Bologna. Fortunately, I also had a great appetite and could opt for as much delicious foods to enjoy. I hope you enjoy this post as much (or more) than the last.
Cari Saluti,
Emilia
Are you enjoying Merenda? I’d love if you would forward it to a friend or family member. Thank you!
Pre-Breakfast at 8 am
No matter where I am, I start my day with a cappuccino or a coffee, which keeps me going for the first hours and wakes me up. On this morning, I had a cappuccino at the hotel bar and then headed out for a long run.
Breakfast at 10 am
After getting ready for the day, I left my hotel and went downstairs to a bar to enjoy a typical breakfast: a brioche alla crema with a macchiato. The breakfast combo was satisfying, flavourful and relevantly light, just what I was craving for. The night before I had had a big dinner and wasn’t really that hungry. Had it been in season, I would’ve enjoyed also a freshly squeezed oj, una spremuta d’arance.
Lunch at 1.30 pm
After a long walk around the center, I strolled my way to Piazza Aldrovandi to one of my favorite seafood restaurants in Bologna Pescheria Aldrovandi. With the temperature nearing 25 degrees, I was craving for a cold and crisp white and some seafood pasta.
At Pescheria Aldrovandi I ordered their Spaghetti di Gragnano alle Vongole Veraci and a glass of their Pecorino from Marché. The perfect match. I enjoyed my lunch da sola with great appetite, cleaned the plate with a scarpetta and loved every second of my lunch hour.
Gelato at 4 pm
A few hours after lunch, I was craving for something sweet and fresh. I knew just the place for this kind of craving. I headed to the best place for gelato in town: Cremeria Santo Stefano and ordered a piccolo cono with a seasonal flavour: the Alphonso mango sorbet and their lemon sorbet. Sweet, fresh and tangy, it was the perfect afternoon pick me up.
Aperitivo at 7 pm
I invited a friend to enjoy aperitivo at the hotel’s rooftop I was staying at. I bought one of my favorite local wines: a dry and crisp natural sparkling rose wine Radice from Paltrinieri I bought at Il Caffe Bazar, some chips and Taggiasche olives my friend brought. We enjoyed the beautiful view, the wine, chips and olives for an hour before heading towards our dinner restaurant.
Dinner at 8.30 pm
